Method Of Analyses
Introduction
Introduction analytical technique for identification purposes to identity the material it will allow the analytical chemist to identify or compare matter and classifying all substances into one of two very broad chemical groups: organics and inorganic. Commune Analytical methods are often classified in to classical or instrumental methods.

Ion chromatography
Ion chromatography is a technique that can be used to separate and quantify different ions in a solution. It is a common method for analyzing sodium cyanate in a variety of samples, such as water, wastewater, and soil. The sample is prepared by dissolving it in water and filtering it to remove any suspended solids. The sample is then injected into the ion chromatograph. The ion chromatograph separates the different ions in the sample based on their charge and size. The ions are then detected by a detector, and the concentration of each ion is calculated.
Spectrophotometry
Spectrophotometry is a technique that can be used to measure the amount of light that is absorbed by a solution. It can be used to analyze sodium cyanate by measuring the absorption of ultraviolet or visible light.
1 .Prepare a series of sodium cyanate standard solutions in the range of 0.1-1 mg/L by diluting the sodium cyanate standard solution with distilled water.
2.Transfer 1 mL of each sodium cyanate standard solution or sample to a separate test tube.
3.Add 1 mL of 2-aminobenzoic acid solution and 1 mL of hydrochloric acid solution to each test tube.
4.Mix the test tubes well and incubate them at room temperature for 30 minutes.
5.Add 1 mL of glacial acetic acid to each test tube and mix well.
6.Measure the absorbance of each test tube at 310 nm using a spectrophotometer.
Titration
Titration is a technique that can be used to determine the concentration of a substance in a solution. It is a common method for analyzing sodium cyanate in laboratory settings.
1 .Pipette 10 mL of the sodium cyanate standard solution or sample into an Erlenmeyer flask.
2.Add 10 mL of nitric acid solution to the flask.
3.Add 3 drops of potassium chromate indicator solution to the flask.
4.Titrate the solution with the standard silver nitrate solution until the color of the solution changes from yellow to orange-red.
5.Record the volume of silver nitrate solution used.
Preparation
Sodium cyanate is prepared industrially by the reaction of with at elevated temperature.2OC(NH2)2 + Na2CO3 → 2Na(NCO) + CO2 + 2NH3 + H2OSodium is observed as an intermediate:H2NC(O)NHCO2Na → NaOCN + NH3 + CO2It can also be prepared in the laboratory by oxidation of a cyanate in aqueous solution by a mild oxidizing agent such as lead oxide
